Very knowledgeable and very kind. I am very new to the hobby and so have called more times than I can count to get advice on how to stock my tank and what sorts of fish/plants would do best. I am sure it might be annoying but Chris has been nothing but kind, understanding and so so so helpful. I have also purchased shrimp from them and they are doing great! They have a great selection and also keep their website extremely up to date on their stock so it is super easy to look at what they have without going into the store. I think it is important to remember that this is a small, family owned business and that it is ran by real people with real lives. I would encourage anyone reading this review to understand that while it might feel like an inconvenience to be unable to browse as you please in store, the personal health of the owners is much more important. and you are also able to freely browse on their website! please don't write this place off as anything less than the knowledgeable and quality LFS that it is just because the owners prefer to prioritize their personal physical health over consumer convenience.

Just purchased some cherry shrimp and nerite snails from here not even 30 minutes ago and was so impressed I had to come write a review. The tanks are beautiful and so well maintained. Huge selection, thriving plants. The owners are extremely knowledgeable and friendly, it’s a shame they’ve gotten bad reviews from people who don't respect them prioritizing their health. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience in the store and find it to be much more personalized with them not letting in crowds of people at once. I will absolutely be back!

One of the best pet stores i have been in. They always have amazing freshwater fish and definitely the healthiest. Never have had an issue from the fish I have brought from here and the customer service is awesome. i have asked them for advice on my tank and fish and they are always happy to help.

Awesome store with very kind folks- you just have to understand how it works! It’s a family owned business, and the owners are going through some health issues, so you can’t just come in and browse around. It’s not what most people are used to, but if you know how to do it, it works better than a chain pet store! They have a website with what they have in stock and photos. You can place an order on the phone, talk to them about what you need or want, and they take care of the rest. You just come and pick up your fish after you order. This place has the best selection and quality of fish in Lexington, AND you don’t have to deal with the foot traffic of people using the pet store like a zoo. I love it! It’s quick, easy, clean, and the owners are incredibly kind. I’ll never go anywhere else after my experience with these lovely people!

I don’t know what was better - the fish selection or the owners! My mom and I visit this store for the first time about a month ago & left with 16 new babies - all of which are alive and well. This store has more of a selection than any other chain pet store I’ve been to. Along with this, they section off all tanks that may have any form of disease so customer’s are ensured to have the best experience with their fish once they get home. They were also very educational in regards to which fish pair best with what / what environments they prefer (hides, plants, etc). We had great conversation, shared laughs, and became permanent customers within our time there.

I moved to Lexington as a few years ago and with me I brought some of my Molly fish to put in a 29 gallon tank. It was my first time having an aquarium over 10 gallons and I wanted to decorate it right. The owner helped pick out easy to care for plants as well as nice pieces of driftwood. My mollies thrived and continued having babies. They weren't any rare variety but I loved them, and this store always gladly took them when I had too many. As many have said, the owners are immunocomprimised so I was only in the store once, and it was beautiful! All of the tanks look to be in tip-top condition, and it always made me feel better knowing my fish were going to a local store that cared. If I was ever able to get more tanks, I would definitely stock them from here.

(water is cloudy from just cleaning algae and vacuuming the bottom) Extremely healthy plants that handled acclimating to their tank extremely well. All the staff was very friendly and know their aquarium stuff well. I've only had these for a few weeks without co2 supplements and the moss has already anchored to the temporary stick, the anubias is growing new roots, and the chain sword has started to send out new chains. The floaters are not from them by the way. I don't recommend floaters anyways as they have a lot of invasive potential if you don't handle them right. Wasn't able to go in the store but considering the husband just came back from a round of kemo I wouldn't want to risk his health anyways. People either don't look at the site or for whatever reason decide to still tear into them for it. I will be returning once the chain sword grows out a bit more and once I get a few more hides to get some shrimp and maybe even another plant. Also the plants are a super competitive price compared to other stores I was looking at! Oh and it appears you won't have to worry about hitchhikers too much as an assassin snail baby hitchhiked here to a snailless tank unfortunately for it. Haven't seen it in a while either so the poor little probably died.

To the owners, ya'll were so kind and knowledgeable, thank you for such a great experience (and fish)! We (JAM) will absolutely be back and will continue to support your business. To anyone who is wanting to check this place out, do your due diligence, vist the website first and call ahead before making the drive. Both owners are immune compromised due to cancer and treatments so they are selective in who gets entry (keep in mind this is a family owned business). So know your fish, reptiles and/or needs before hand and they'll be more than happy to help you out. Best experience I've had fish shopping in a long time, I drove over an hr to visit and will do it again!

The best pet store in lexington by far. For years they have been professional and actually take care of the animals in their care. The people are very nice and love to sell their animals to good homes. And they are the only petstore where the axolotls actually looked healthy. I just got mine not too long ago!
